**Interviewer:** What inspired your degree project?
**Interviewee:** My inspiration came from the ethereal and the dreamlike, exploring how we romanticise otherworldly shapes and forms. This project is a delicate dance between the surreal and the elusive, capturing the lightness and mystique of these forms.
**Interviewer:** How did you develop this idea?
**Interviewee:** Initially, my work focused on the human pursuit of rationality, but I found myself increasingly drawn to the intangible and fleeting aspects of our perceptions. The development of this project followed several key steps. First, inspired by Sugimoto’s ‘Conceptual Forms’, I began looking for mathematical formulas that could represent the vibes of each cult from ‘Cultist Simulator’, a game, including the Lantern, Edge, Heart, Moth, Forge, Winter, Grail, Knock, and Secret Histories cults. Then, I used DALL-E to generate approximately 170 mathematical models based on these cults. I started by folding papers based on the 2D forms, which led to experimenting with printing the chosen models on acetate papers and capturing images while playing with light. Finally, I asked a performer to improvise her interpretation of the cults, adding another layer of interpretation and expression.
**Interviewer:** What is the most important medium in your project?
**Interviewee:** Photography. I use it to capture these transient, ethereal moments, photographing the acetate models while playing with light. During the improvisation step, I also used long exposure photography to capture the movement and essence of the performance. Additionally, I incorporate digital print fabrics featuring my own photos of nature, specifically plants — because flowers have an inherent association with romance.
**Interviewer:** What message do you hope to convey through your work?
**Interviewee:** This project is primarily for myself. It’s an exploration of my own perceptions and fascinations with the ethereal. While I don’t necessarily expect viewers to feel anything specific, I hope they might see a glimpse of the beauty I perceive in these forms.
